Photo Dump

Here are a bunch of photos that I have taken with my phone the last couple months.  I'll add captions...eventually.

That's right, I have a grocery store in Harlem!

That's right, I have a line of BBQ sauces...but they spelled stubs wrong.

My new friend Carl from work really likes sharing food from his home country, Trinidad and Tobago.  He is so sweet and generous.  I believe this is Poulorie (?) and Roti...I don't remember but it was good.

My official business card in my official "modern" business card holder.
My mom and Dina gave it to me as a graduation present.

Arc de Triomphe/Civil War Memorial...WTF?

When your building doesn't have a working heating system, rent a boiler/semi-truck/dumpster and pipe it in!

Cute little girl whose nails I painted and bedazzled at the "Hot Dogs and Homework" Valentines Day Party.
Every Tuesday I go up to Harlem to tutor at the church.  It's been a great experience.

Oh wonderful James...after the Muppets movie.

Clio's 5th birthday.  She designed her cake.  Anika made it.  Then she decorated it.

The "Otto-Cracker" that I made for Otto for Christmas.

When you don't have locks what's the next best thing?  Slurpee straws, duh.

Dad outside of our hotel outside of Columbus, Ohio.

A few casualties...no big deal.

This casualty was actually sad, I made that platter in undergrad.
My dad tried to keep a piece of it to remember it by...I called him a hoarder, then he threw it away.

Dad chilling in the T-Mobile store by my apartment.
Side-note: I don't think the sales people had a combined IQ of over 20.  Very frustrating.

Leaving dad on a train to Anika's...he didn't get lost!

Milo and Clio always decorate my dad whenever he sleeps.

Milo and my dad playing mancala.

We were at Chipotle but I'm not quite sure what we were doing in this picture.

Qui-qui eating a microwave s'more.

So it's been a while...

Dear Diary,

It's been four months since my last confession...or blog update...

So a lot has happened and not a lot has happened.

Big stuff:
-After what seemed like FOREVER I finally got a job at a firm called GreenbergFarrow.  It's not exactly what I was expecting and it's not exactly the work I am interested in as far as long term goes, but I am extremely thankful for the job and am very grateful for the opportunity.  (I'll complain about it later.)

-So this means that I now live in New York.  I just signed a lease for an apartment in Brooklyn!  I am moving in tomorrow, well more like moving my suitcases and crap to the apartment.  All of my furniture is in St. Louis still.  (Karen and David Walker, thank you and I love you guys.)

-Um...New York is fun.  It's exciting.  It's interesting.  It's very smelly.
A lot of people beg for money on the train and that gets annoying.
For example the other day I offered a "homeless" man without shoes an apple from my lunch when he came by, he switched from his needy sounding mumbling to a normal voice and said "Oh no, thank you" and put his hand in front of him ushering it away.  He then went immediately back into character mumbling "Anything.  Thank you.  God bless you.  Thank you..."  I thought to myself "Huh, that was interesting." I then put the apple back into my bag.
There was a mariachi band a few weeks ago.  That was entertaining.
Tonight there was a clean very well dressed girl that was singing/speaking in a very annoying monotone voice that was shoving this sign into people's faces.  I just glanced at the sign as she shoved it in mine, it said something like "...I need money for rent...I don't have any kids to support..."  She ticked me off.

Well I'm tired and have a big day ahead of me.

I don't have the internet at this new place yet.  I should look into that.

Nighty night.

My parents are old

So today is my parents 40th wedding anniversary...wow.
Despite their bickering and constant irritation with each other I know that somewhere deep inside they care for and love each other.
Case and point: A few years ago my dad said to me that he knew my mother loved him not because she would say it but because he knows that without fail he can go to his dresser drawer and he will find folded clean garments in his drawer.

Happy anniversary Mom and Dad!  I love you!

The last month in some pictures

Here are a few pictures from the last month or so.  I have spent time in NY, DC, and Boston.
Giant bear at Costco.

'stache.

We went bowling at the coolest bowling alley/night club at the Chelsea Piers.

Otto was surprised by my awesome bowling skills.

Very cool lounge at ....  It was a tasteful mixture of modern and vintage.

Tammy next to her favorite artists work!

A random Foster building up the street from the New Museum.

Sanaa's New Museum.

Just waiting for the train.
The Washington Deluxe didn't really live up to its name.

Bra-face and I walking around the giant pond on our way to see the new Martin Luther King, Jr. monument.  We were accompanied by Jeff, Brigham, and Courtney(?).

Typical charming street in DC.

The epically spooky Enola Gay at the Air and Space Museum Annex near Dulles.

My wish for Yoko Ono's Wishing Tree at the Hirshhorn sculpture park.

This is the only way someone can tell they are in DC's Chinatown.
Oh this and the Bed Bath and Beyond sign that has chinese characters below the english.

We made a rocket-ship out of a box.  The Quister 2000.

A full day of PreK is tiring.

Milo and Otto wrote to President Obama about their concerns with the trees and orangoutangs or something like that.  Anyways they got this packet back from the White House!  They were sooooooo excited!

This is the view from Anika and Hugh's.  Seriously amazing.
A tastefully decorated truck outside of James' office.

James decided that we were going to stop at Friendly's because I had never been there.
We sat.  We ate.  We conquered.
Then we got stuck in major traffic adding a good 2 hours to our drive.

Awesome watercolor of Peter as a child!

Pater outside of his childhood home!  So cute!
MIT - Media Lab
Lobby of the Maki building.  It was very nice.  Sleek.  Clean.  Fun.

Gehry's eclectic monstrosity on the MIT campus.
The outside is horrible but the interior is fun like Disneyland!

This was our reflection in a fun little sculpture in the foyer.

Yes, the building really does leak.  There were holes cut out of the ceiling in many places....
FLW's buildings always leaked.  I guess genius always comes with leaky roofs.

Kresege Auditorium by Eero Saarinen

Just walking around Boston.

The hah-bah.

New England Aquarium by Peter Chermayeff on the hah'bah.

City Hall I think...it was something brutal.

Lovely church on the smaller than I anticipated Harvard campus.

James outside of the GSD.

The old cathedral with the new "brutal" GSD next to it.

Room inside an old church that was converted into a dance studio.
Can we say Ronchamp?

Oh, yeah.  I have an interview tomorrow with a firm that I would really like to work for.  Wish me luck!
